Sonia Arena, who runs the Tight Shop near Camden Lock, says her “punk” style is influenced by the 70s and 80s. The 25-year-old from Italy has bought most of her clothes from the Stables market in Camden Town, and customised her studded, sleeveless leather vest. She also wears a black jumper, tie dye jeans and Creepers shoes, accessorised with lots of rings, a necklace and a rather sharp looking razor blade earring.

Jopo Simeon K, from Helsinki in Finland stands out thanks to his fabulous, home-made headdress, which he explains “is just two scarves twisted together to make a turban” with a few extra sparkly bits attached. The 25-year-old, who works as both a nurse for autistic children and a make-up artist, is wearing a black and gold top from Starstyling in Berlin, a black jacket from a Japanese brand, black leggings, and boots from Jeffrey Campbell. Jopo jokes that his style is “tacky and uncomfortable” but adds that “as long as it looks good it doesn’t matter.

Alice Pasquinelli, 25, is an Erasmus student from Italy learning modern languages at Warwick Univeristy. Here in Camden for a weekend visit, she is exploring the market with a friend where she has just picked up her bowler hat and sunglasses. She has teamed her latest buys with a chequered coat with leather sleeves from Primark, along with a flowery scarf and bright pink boots from Coventry. She says she likes to be original with her outfits, with a few retro bits and pieces thrown in.

Dana Kenneh, 22, from Cologne in Germany is revisiting all her old friends in Camden, where she used to live last year. She is wearing ripped skinny jeans from Zara with a jumper and varsity jacket from H&M, along with some chunky boots. The thing that stands out most in her “sporty, casual and fun” outfit, is the zebra-patterned scarf that flies freely in the wind – and of course a pair of sunglasses from Camden Lock Market.

Stephanie Brosnan, 20, from Richmond just picked up her black and gold statement necklace and sunglasses in Camden Town today. She has teamed her new accessories with an asymmetrical white jumper from H&M, patterned leggings from New Look, Ugg boots and a bright pink bag from Malaysia. The student says she likes “quite girly things” which are both “comfortable” and “sophisticated” at the same time.

Lauren Lashley, 22, from south east London, is wearing a black and red Harrington jacket she picked up on eBay over a dark emerald hoody from H&M and a simple black vest, along with black high-waisted ‘Joni’ jeans from Topshop and brown ankle wedge boots from New Look. Lauren says she is “not a very girly girl”, so she looks for comfortable “boyish styles” inspired by grunge.
